Mochipet and his friends at A​bleton, Serato, Keith McMillen, iZotope, DJ TechTools, Drum Pads 24, and The Untz recently setup a remix contest to discover new producers in the world of experimental electronic music. What they received was nothing short of amazing. Mochipet and his panel of judges (Z-Trip, Ill.Gates, Mr. Lif and edIT of The Glitch Mob) had a hard time picking a winner. In the end, surprised newcomer Pockitz (later discovered to be Matt of Love & Light) took the medal. Everything on this release is top notch. 24 remixes from producers around the world to Mochipet’s seminal Glitch-Hop release “Psilocybin Samurai” Enjoy!

Pokemon Wedding is the latest offering from the Taiwan born and the California raised producer, David Y Wang. After taking an extended break, David’s music has grown and is more ornate than ever before. Says David: “I had to take a break because my father was in the hospital and touring non-stop was taking a toll on my life. This past year has been an amazing growing time for me. I feel very fortunate to have the privilege to work on things I never had time to do before. I’m already mixing several releases for next year, including some side projects, which I am very excited about.” Pokemon Wedding makes a departure from David’s well known bass oriented hip-hop beats for a more melodic endeavor, which emphasises the use of harmonies and counterpoints. “Ludicolo van Beathoven” sounds like something J Dilla would have made if he was born in the time of Beethoven, and “Till Pet Do Us Part” almost sounds like a collaboration between Daft Punk and Johann Sebastian Bach. “Rawr Means I Love You” the long awaited Mochipet album is finally here, and it is quite a journey. In traditional Mochipet fashion the album runs the gamout from Electro to Disco to Dubstep to Dancehall and everything not in between! In a world of one-hit singles Mochipet wanted to create something different: “I wanted to create a very eclectic album as I usually do but this time I wanted ever song to have a cohesive link to each other, I wanted it to take you through a journey as you listened through the album.” And quite the journey it is, songs like “Beast” and “Whomp-a-saurus Sex” showcases the staple Mochipet styles of heavy bass and dense drumkits but “Swimming in the Seas of Galaxies” and “Space Between Time” are more melody based and show a more introspective side of David’s repritoire. Songs like “Dionysys Synthony” and “Black Hole Sunrise” even have a cinematic feel, incorpoarting multi-part harmonies more commonly used in Jazz and Classical Music. As with any Mochipet album there is a strong Hip-Hop influence. “Spark” which features a cameo from ex-Def Jux’s member MrLif, to be released later, takes you back to a time when lo-fi samples and found sounds we’re the creative dominance over over-hyped drum machines and Swag. Through out the Time Travels and Black Hole Sunrises the album offers a path of encouragement in today’s declining economy and end of the world landscapes, as a journey outward may indeed be just a journey inward. Or as the Speak and Spell like voice on the title track suggests: “Life, I know it’s rough but just because the world is messed up does not mean you have to be too.”

Earlier this year, I was playing a show in New Orleans for Mardi Gras and someone decided to steal my laptop out of my backpack at the venue. I was of course in disarray, well because someone jacked my laptop! but more importantly, I was in the middle of tour and had to complete many more shows before I was able to head home. With help from my friend Eric, we spent hours to navigate our way through the Mardi Gras madness to go to the Apple Store, many miles away, so I could buy a new laptop that was not what I needed, but could work, charged it on my credit card with money I didn’ t have at the time, so I could return it after tour was over. Shortly after I posted about my stolen laptop on my social media, I was sure it was gone but just in-case there was any chance it might have been seen; I know it was a long shot. But more importantly, I was worried the thief could go on stealing more laptops from other artists without anyone being aware of the situation. Not expecting much, I posted some tracks to start a laptop fund and help spread awareness about the situation. To my surprise, donations started coming in at a substantial rate. Not only did my fans donate to my fund but they also helped spread awareness of the situation! I was able to raise enough to get a new laptop when I got off tour. I am very grateful for this, not only because I was able to replace the laptop that was stolen from me, but because people actually took time out and resources to help me in my time of need. To this I will always be grateful, and I promised that once my next album was finished I would send it to them free of charge before it is released to the public! =)

I have learned a lot about insurance and tracking systems for keeping your laptop going to the wrong hands when your on tour. If you would like more info on this you can read my post here.

His proposal is specifically political, and if you know even at some of the names of the musicians involved you will see that everything is more than real, that are putting force into a target clear and thus are making an important contribution. The roster is composed by Dj Vadim, Filastine, Quantic, Mochipet, Natasha Kmeto, The Polish Ambassador, Resident Anti-Hero, Octopus Nebula, Ott, Ott & The All-Seeing I, Ill-Esha, Emancipator, Alex B, Anomie Belle, Blietech, Conduits, Cry Wolf, Dr Israel, Etheric Double, Intelepaths, Invisible Allies, Little People, Marley Carroll, Papadosio, Paper Diamond, Paper Tiger, Phutureprimitive, Pnuma Trio, Random Rab, The Great Muandane, The Nadis WarriorsYppah and Unlimited Gravity.
Last November 28 have released their second compilation for so-called free descent “Array Vol 2″, which contains tracks from all of their artists.” As it is logical, because the reason that unites all of these names is not a musical line but an eagerness in common, styles that handles are the most heterogeneous. On this album they may listen to hip hop, house, future step, indie hop, IDM, synth hop, trip hop, dubstep, reggae dub, techno pop and electro. But mysteriously this stylistic explosion runs evenly.
